MASVINGO City-The ancient city Mayor, Aleck Tabe will take delivery of his US$85 000 official vehicle any time soon, The Midweek Watch has learnt.
The local authority has already flighted an advert in the local press seeking bidders with the capacity to supply three top of the range vehicles including the Mayor’s car.
Mayor Tabe is expected to get a Toyota Fortuner 2.8 GD6 VX valued at US$85 000.
The local authority is also expected to get delivery of a towing vehicle costing US$40 000 and another that will be used as a cash in transit vehicle by council’s municipal police at a cost of US$35 000.

Masvingo City Town Clerk, Engineer Edward Mukaratirwa confirmed the development and said the purchase of the mayoral vehicle was approved by the Ministry of Local government and Public Works.
“Everything is above board, we were granted permission by the parent ministry to purchase the official mayoral vehicle at that cost.
“The other two vehicles will be used by the municipal police department,” he said.
Engineer Mukaratirwa added that the towing vehicle was long overdue as the city was witnessing a surge in motorists who are violating the city’s traffic by laws and coming of the towing vehicle will go a long way in bringing sanity on the city’s roads.
Mayor Tabe said he did not choose the type and model of the vehicle but simply went on to accept what his predecessor, short lived Shantiel Chiwara had wanted to use as an official mayoral vehicle, before her recall from council chambers by self styled interim secretary general of troubled CCC party.
“Shantel Chiwara is the one who wanted that vehicle as her official mayoral car so when she was recalled and I was elected the new mayor I just said let’s go with the vehicle she had chosen,” he said.
