Masvingo Mayor, Cllr Aleck Tabe held his birthday party last Saturday in Mucheke where spent time going around his ward handing out hampers to women and child headed families.

Clad in slops, a track bottom and a t-shirt, Tabe had dusty feet as he made rounds in Ward 4 handing out 10kg mealie meal packets, 2 litres cooking oil, a bar of soap, 2kg rice, 2kg flour, 2kg sugar and tea bags to 40 families.
Tabe said it was a way of thanking people from his ward because they made him what he is today.
“My wife would have been here to distribute the hampers and interact with you woman to woman but she has pressing commitments. I am here today because you are the ones who made me what I am today and mothers are the backbones of any family.
“I couldn’t have been a mayor had you not elected me in Ward 4. This program is not ending here. We will continue handing out hampers whenever we get resources,” said Tabe.

Tabe was accompanied by Councillor Esther Zishiri who also hails from Ward 4 and Independent candidate for the upcoming Ward 7 by-election Desire Struggle Nyahunda.
“We are grateful to the Mayoress because this wouldn’t have happened without her consent- as you know, behind every successful man there is a woman and therefore we should applaud the Mayoress for supporting this initiative. Mothers are the backbone of every family,” said Zishiri.
One of the beneficiaries, Lee Mahachi applauded Tabe and his team for the donations. Mahachi said most elected officials don’t come back to thank the electorate only to return when they seek reelection.
The birthday celebrations were capped off with a party held at the mayor’s house in Rhodene and attended by invited guests including those from Ward 4.
