MASVINGO – The recent decisions by former Gutu Central legislator Oliver Chirume and ex-Zanu PF member Dzikamai Mavhaire to rejoin the ruling Zanu PF party have come under scrutiny by political analysts.

According to political analyst and Great Zimbabwe University lecturer, Professor Fidelis Duri, the two politicians’ actions are driven by greed and self-interest.

“Both politicians are seeking opportunities to enrich themselves at the expense of the public. It can be that these people were bought or they are doing it for their personal interest, not that they want to build Zimbabwe,” Duri told The Midweek Watch.

Defending his decision, Chirume stated in an exclusive phone interview that as a businessman, his aim is to contribute to the nation’s development.

“I am excited about the opportunity to engage directly with the President, to have a one-on-one meeting. My aim is to build our country as one,” he said.

However, speculation surrounds Chirume’s ambitions, with indications that he may be eyeing a position as a Presidential agent for the Munhumutapa housing scheme targeted for the youths which was launched by Presidemnt Mnangagwa in September 18.

Robson Mavhenyengwa, the chairman of Zanu PF Masvingo Province, welcomed the new members.

“In Masvingo, we believe that no one can be chased out of the party. If someone chooses to leave and then return, we will embrace them,” he said.

Mavhenyengwa also revealed that Mavhaire had a one-on-one meeting with the President, citing it as a sign of respect for the positions he held as a member of the politburo and former minister of Energy.

The former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader, Nelson Chamisa, declined to comment, suggesting that the opposition is strategizing in response to these developments.

As Zimbabwe navigates its complex political landscape, the motivations of leaders like Mavhaire and Chirume will continue to spark debate.

There is also speculation that Mavhaire’s business empire was under serious threat from top Zanu PF officials.
