Masvingo Unite, a philanthropic group made up of diasporans and locals, has donated an assortment of children’s wear to Mutimurefu Prison.
The clothes are meant for children’s inmates at the Muitmurefu Prison which is about 20km from Masvingo City.
The handover ceremony took place at The Midweek Watch offices at 50 Shuvai Mahofa Street in Masvingo City last week.
Masvingo Unite was represented by Eben Hardware director and Women Entrepreneurship Day Organisation (WEDO) Masvingo Province Ambassador, Benonia Machavuda, Tinashe Ruzive, Petunia Mazarire, Benie Nemukuyu, Nkulumani Mlambo, Tawanda Homba, and WEDO UN national ambassador Angeline Mikiri.
“We are excited to support this initiative. We believe that every child deserves access to basic necessities like clothing, regardless of their circumstances.
“As Masvingo Unite we will continue to support those in need whenever possible as part of our community responsibility.
“I would to pay tribute to those extended a helping hand by donating the children’s clothes, I ma sure they will go a long way in warming the vulnerable children who with their mothers in prison,” Machavuda said.
ZPCS Masvingo public relations officer, principal correctional officer, Stanslous Sanike, expressed gratitude for the donation.
“We appreciate Masvingo Unite’s kind gesture and generosity. These clothes will go a long way in supporting the well-being of the children under our care,” said Sanike.
