Masvingo-Morgenster accident claims one

A fatal accident occurred on the Masvingo-Morgenster road at the 32km peg, involving a Nissan Caravan driven by Cliston Mavengano (30) from Chief Shumba, and a silver Honda Fit driven by John Rutungo (27) from Chief Mugabe.

According to Masvingo Province police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, the accident resulted in the death of Tafara Rutungo (7), who succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. Tafara was a passenger in the Honda Fit, and John Rutungo, the driver, was his next of kin.

 The body was taken to Masvingo General Hospital mortuary.

Five other passengers were injured in the accident and were taken to Morgenster Hospital for treatment.

 John Rutungo had three passengers on board, while Cliston  Mavengano had eight passengers in the Nissan Caravan.

According to police reports, John Rutungo encroached into Clinton Mavengano’s lane, causing a head-on collision.

The police are urging drivers to exercise caution and adhere to road rules to prevent such tragic accidents.
