Masvingo Province has managed to harvest a paltry 2.6tones per hectare of the winter wheat crop as compared to national average of 5tones per hectare.

The province managed to harvest 8 000tones from 3 000 hectares which were planted.
The poor harvest is being attributed to incessant power cuts, water scarcity, and delayed plantings by farmers.
In an interview with The Midweek Watch, Masvingo Provincial Agriculture Extension (Agritex) Director Nobert Masiiwa, said the key districts, including Masvingo, Chiredzi, and Gutu contributed most of the wheat harvested.
This year’s challenges, however, underscore the importance of addressing infrastructure and resource limitations to unlock the sector’s full potential.
