Manica Diamonds lost 0-1 to Ngezi Platinum at Baobab stadium yesterday. No surprise. The score-line flatters them. With that result, the Gem Boys sit bottom with 2 points from 10 matches, 12 goals conceded and only 3 scored. The numbers are brutal, but the ownership chaos is what is really burying them.

What yesterday’s 0-1 actually means

*On Paper: A narrow loss away to a title contender. Respectable.

*In Reality: Another game they could not win because they cannot prepare like a professional club.

Manica Diamonds arrived 45 minutes before kickoff. No proper warm-up. A bench with two teenagers and no goalkeeper’s coach. They defended deep, lost to a 68th-minute set piece and never looked like scoring. Ngezi had 72% possession. That is not performance that is damage control.

The 0-1 was the best case outcome for a club with three owners in two months, four months of salary arrears and seniors weighing legal action over breach of contract.

They are already 6-7 points adrift of safety. In a 34 game season, teams averaging 0.2 points per game get relegated most of the times. No PSL club has survived after taking 2 points from the first 10 games since the 18-team era started.

Why the hole is deeper than the table shows

AMV tried to fire all seniors in April. Even if Agruml reverses that, trust is gone. Multiple senior players have approached FUZ to terminate contracts over non-payment. If 5+ starters walk away, Mnaica Diamonds will finish the season with academy kids.

Agruml inherited ZCDC’s wage bill plus AMV’s promises. No sponsor pays upfront in Zimbabwe. Gate takings vs Hardrock were under $400. The players trained twice last week.

After Agama FC this coming weekend, the Gem Boys will face Dynamos, Chicken Inn and Highlanders in a 4-week stretch. Those three will take 9 points off a stable team. Against this version of Manica Diamonds, it could be 12-0 aggregate.

Can they swim out when they face Agama FC next weekend?

Agama FC form: They are on mid-table, 4 wins from 10 matches, strong at home and weak away. This is the definition of a ‘must win’ encounter for Manica Diamonds. Lose and the gap to 16th place could be 10 points before June.

What has to change in 7 days

  1. Pay something: Agruml needs to clear at least 1-month arrears before Friday. Players do not run for new owners, they run for bank notifications.
  2. Pick a team: Name the same 11 who started vs Ngezi Platinum and train them 5 days straight. No more ‘whoever shows up’ selections.
  3. Score first: Manica Diamonds have not led a game all season. Agama concedes early. An early goal changes the entire psychology.

If Agruml pays and the seniors play, Manica Diamonds can scrape a 1-1. If the wage issue drags, Agama will win 2-0. The ownership mess means football is secondary. The real match is in the boardroom and at the bank.

Right now, Manica Diamonds are not in a relegation fight. They are in administration without calling it that.

Next Saturday vs Agama FC is not a football match. It is a test of whether Agruml bought a club or a cautionary tale. Lose and the PSL should start preparing for Division One travel budgets in Mutare.
