MASVINGO CITY-POPULAR MANGWANDI socialite, Shamu who used to frequent Showground bars has died after taking rat poison after catching his girlfriend with a man.
Sources told The Midweek Watch that Shamu allegedly downed the poison in the presence of the police as they were walking to the charge office.
Sources who could not be named as they said they are not related to the deceased said Shamu who was in the business of selling fire wood in Rhodene and ZIMRE suburbs had a misunderstanding with his longtime girlfriend after catching her red handed with another man on Thursday evening (6/2/25).
It is said Shamu allegedly picked a stone and hit his girlfriend on the forehead and she collapsed on the spot and was rushed to Masvingo Provincial Hospital for treatment.
A report was made and the police visited Shamu at his lodgings in Mangwandi near Chifen Quarry on the outskirts of the ancient city on Friday morning and escorted him to Masvingo Central.
It is not clear when exactly he took the poison, but some people said he drank it just before arriving at the charge office and as they entered Shamu started vomiting and was rushed to Masvingo Provincial Hospital where he died on Saturday (8/2/25) at around 4am.
Shamu is said to be in his thirties and was married with children.
Masvingo Province police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa said he had not received the report by the time of posting the story.
