Tichaona Chambaramo (23) has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for murdering Tinashe Marufu (31) in Runyararo West last August.
According to Masvingo Province deputy police s spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Masauso Patinyu, the incident occurred on August 4, 2023, when Marufu chased Chambaramo and Delight Mutere (26)after they stole his cellphone near Francis Aphiri Primary School.
Chambaramo stabbed Marufu in the collar bone, and despite initial escape attempts, he was apprehended by the crowd. Marufu succumbed to his injuries.
Mutere fled but was arrested on September 20, 2023, in Odzi after a tip-off from the public. He was later sentenced to 18 years in prison for robbery, with three years suspended.
Assistant Inspector Patinyu praised the public’s role in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
