CHIRUMHANZU-Cephas Dick (65) of Chirumhanzu was found dead along a foot path in Pfumai Village hours after having a scuffle with two other villagers whom he had accused of theft during beer drinking.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko told The Midweek Watch that the incident occurred on July 15, 2023 at 7pm.
Insp Mahoko said Dick accused Tatenda Gundani (27) and Wedzerai Matongo (42) of being thieves.
“It is alleged that on the fateful day the now deceased, Cephas Dick was drinking beer at a certain homestead when a misunderstanding ensued between him and the suspects Tatenda Gundani and Wedzerai Matongo both of Pfumai Village. The now deceased accused the suspects of being thieves. They all left for their homes together around 7pm,” said Insp Mahoko.
He said Dick’s body was discovered with multiple injuries and fractures all over along a foot path the following day.
Insp Mahoko added that police instituted investigations that led to the subsequent arrest of the suspects.
He paid tribute to the members of the public for cooperating with the police during the investigations.
