SILOBELA-A night of drinking between two brothers in Silobela turned tragic when a dispute over the purchase of beer ended in a fatal assault, leading to the arrest of a 33-year-old man.
According to the Midlands province police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, Bekezela Moyo (33) was arrested on allegations of killing his elder brother, Thinkwell Moyo.
The incident occurred in the early hours of July 13, 2025 at Turtle Mine in Silobela.
The two siblings, both from Village Ntabeni under Chief Ntabeni, were reportedly drinking at the Turtle Tuckshops when a disagreement arose over who was responsible for buying the beer.
In a fit of rage, Bekezela is said to have picked up a log and struck Thinkwell on the head.
Thinkwell collapsed from the blow and was rushed to Silobela District Hospital by well-wishers.
He was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Police responded to the scene leading to the arrest of Bekezela.
Insp Mahoko confirmed that investigations are ongoing, with the intention of bringing the matter before the courts.
Mahoko urged the public to seek peaceful means of resolving disputes.
“Once again, we call upon members of the public to solve disputes peacefully,” he said.
