MBERENGWA-A 40-year-old man from Mhlauri village, under Chief Mposi in Mberengwa, hung himself with a Zesa cable from the roof truss of his bedroom hut after his wife refused to attend a church service.

The incident occurred on May 9, 2024, around 8:30 pm.

According to Midlands police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the deceased, Godknows Dube, had a dispute with his wife over her failure to attend a church service.

In the heat of the argument, Dube struck his wife on the head with an unknown object, causing her injury.

The wife’s screamed for help, attracting the attention of  a neighbor, who quickly rushed to their home to investigate the matter.

However, upon seeing the neighbor’s arrival, Dube threatened his wife with a machete, forcing her to flee and seek assistance from other villagers.

Realizing the severity of his wife’s injuries, Dube panicked and retreated to his bedroom hut.

He then took a Zesa cable and hanged himself from the roof truss.

Insp Mahoko told The Midweek Watch that when the villagers arrived at the scene, they “discovered Dube’s lifeless body hanging tightly from the roof truss inside his bedroom”.

He said the police were notified, and an investigation is currently underway.

Mahoko urged members of the public to resolve their disputes amicably by seeking the help of others in order to avoid tragic outcomes.
