Man beats mother for restraining him from beating sister

ZVISHAVANE- A 29-year- old man from Zvishavane who assaulted his 46- year-old mother with an electric cable for refraining him from beating up his sister over a drink has been dragged to court.

Andreas Mushambi of house number 1310 Highlands pleaded guilty to domestic violence charges when he appeared before Zvishavane Resident Magistrate Archie Wochiunga.

Mushambi was remanded out of custody to 4 September 2023.

The accused person is the son to the complainant.

The prosecutor Takunda Mashingaidze told the court that on 19 August 2023 at around 1030 hours, the complainant Ester Gwapedza was at home with his son Mushambi and Charity Mushambi the sister of the accused.

The court heard thata  misunderstanding arose between Andreas and his sister Charity over a drink.

It is alleged that Gwapedza tried to stop the accused from assaulting his sister. Instead, he went inside the house and took an electric cable and beat up his mother once on the back and threatened to kill her.

The State alleges that the accused abuses drugs like “Mutoriro”.

In African context it is a taboo to assault a mother.

When the Magistrate asked him why he assaulted his mother, Mushambi said ” Your Worship it was a mistake, l did not want to hit her but my sister “.

Magistrate Archie Wochiunga ordered the accused not to visit his mother’s house till the trial on 4 September this year.
