CHISUMBANJE-Crimes of passion are becoming prevalent and Chisumbanje in Chipinge is no exception as Tawanda Zangani (33) of Chizarire Village under Chief Garahwa, is battling for life at Victoria Chitepo Hospital in Mutare after being stabbed several times by a rival suitor, Kenesi Brighton (34) of Murambiwa Village under same Chief.

Manicaland Province Acting Police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the crime of passion and said the accused has since been arrested by Police and is being charged with attempted murder for stabbing his victim whom he left for dead at Chitepo Business Centre under Chief Garahwa in Chipinge.

Chinyoka told The Midweek Watch that Zangani was drinking beer at Pito Bottle Store with Tawanda Mahachi of Murambiwa Village under Chief Garahwa.

Brighton approached the two and he accused Zangani of dating his sweetheart and an altercation ensued.

Efforts by Mahachi to stop the fight yielded no positive results as Brighton drew a knife from his pocket and started chasing after Zangani who was running for his dear life.

He caught up with him and started stabbing him all over the body and left him for dead as he fled the scene.

Zangani was taken to St Peters Hospital, but was referred to Victoria Chitepo Hospital as his condition was serious.

The accused was arrested after the matter was reported to Chisumbanje Police Station and is facing murder charges while his victim is recuperating in hospital.

“Violence is never the answer. There are always more effective, peaceful ways to solve problems. When you are angry, try to take a step back and calm down and find a constructive way to resolve the issues.

“Be respectful of other people’s feelings and try to see things from the other person’s perspective and remember that violence does not only just harm the other person’s feelings, but it can result in grievous consequences. Choose peace over violence, it’s the best choice for everyone involved and respect the sanctity of life.

“Seek advice when confronted with such situations and avoid taking the law into your own hands,” said Chinyoka.
