Gokwe-The Zimbabwe Republic Police has confirmed the arrests of two men on allegations of murder in separate incidents in the Midlands province.
According to a statement from the Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the first incident occurred on June 24, 2025, at around 11:30 a.m in Village Munukwa under Chief Nemangwe in Gokwe.
The now-deceased Moses Moyo, a Chief’s Messenger, approached the suspect Brighton Maketo with the intention of serving him with summons to appear at Headman Ndlalamba’s Court.
A misunderstanding arose between the two, resulting in a fist fight.
Maketo allegedly used a stool and an axe to assault Moyo on the head and leg.
Moyo succumbed to his injuries at Maketo’s homestead.
In a separate incident on June 23, 2025, at around 11 p.m in Village Sikweya under Chief Gwesela in Zhombe, Stanford Kembo, was struck with a wooden axe handle and killed.
According to the police statement, Kembo was drinking beer at China City Tuckshops in Zhombe with his younger brother, Success Kembo, and other patrons.
A misunderstanding ensued between Success and the now-suspect Tellmore Magodho.
The group later followed Magodho to his home, where he allegedly armed himself with the wooden axe handle and struck Stanford on the head and left leg, killing him on the spot.
Police have arrested both suspects, and they will appear in court soon to face charges of murder.
Inspector Mahoko urged members of the public to resolve disputes peacefully and respect law enforcement agents at all levels, as the use of violence often leads to unnecessary loss of life.
