Masvingo-Prominent Masvingo lawyer Rodney Makausi will smile all the way to the bank after winning US$18 000 lawsuit he had filed against singer and socialite Christabell Stembeni Mahlungwa aka Kikky Badass for defamation.
Makausi had taken Mahlungwa to court over a post she made on Instagram, which he claimed was defamatory. The post, which went viral on social media platforms, allegedly insinuated that Makausi had solicited for sexual favours from Mahlungwa.
In his application, Makausi denied the allegations, stating that he had never approached Mahlungwa or sent her any messages. He claimed that the post had caused irreparable harm to his reputation and character.
The court found in favour of Makausi, awarding him US$18,000 in damages, as well as interest at the prescribed rate from the date of judgment to the date of final payment. Mahlungwa was also ordered to pay Makausi’s costs of suit.
Makausi’s lawyer, Jackson Mupoperi, welcomed the judgment, saying it was a victory for his client’s reputation and character.
The judgment was handed down by Justice Sunsley Zisengwe on December 4, 2024.
