Champ of Champs on tomorrow

MIDLANDS – Bata Stadium in Gweru is the place to be for football lovers as it hosts Champions of Champions Cup where teams that won in the four Division 1 leagues will contest for supremacy.

Kwekwe United FC from Central Region, Triangle United FC from Eastern Region, ZPC Hwange FC from Southern Region and Scotland FC from Northern Region will meet in a tournament that was confirmed by Central Region acting chairperson Dr Thomas Marambanyika.

The tournament will take place from 7-8 December 2024.

Central Region will host the inaugural tournament which is set to be an annual tournament.

Kwekwe United has players such as Elton Njini, Tinashe Mashaireni, David Chipo and Elton Nechiware to watch out for. Scottland boasts of big name players such as Allen Gahadzikwa, King Nadolo, Leroy Mavunga, Cleopas Dube and crowd puller Denver Mukamba  among others will be representing  the Northern Region Soccer League.

  ZPC Hwange, who led the race in the Southern Region Soccer League from the start to the end, will have an opportunity  to parade their stars  to followers outside their region  at a grand stage. Justin Kaunda, who narrowly lost the Southern Region Soccer League  Golden Boot to Mbongeni Minezhi  of Bulawayo City, will be one of the players to look out for at the tournament  together with his striking  partner Courage Sibanda. 

Triangle, who were the last team to be confirmed champions after winning  the title on the last day of the Eastern Region Soccer League season  last weekend, will bring their outspoken  coach Luke Masomere  as well as seasoned players Thabani Kamusoko, Ali Sadiki, Ngandu Mangala, Domic Mukandi, Lameck Nhamo among others.

 Marambanyika  said the tournament  is a good platform for the clubs  to gauge their competitiveness ahead of their graduation  into the Premier Soccer League  next year.

“This is a good platform for the teams to see where they stand  in their competitiveness because they will be facing  teams from other  regions,” Marambanyika.

“The tournament  provides the teams with an opportunity  to see the areas they need to beef up.  As the hosting  region, we also call upon fans from the region to create an exciting  atmosphere during these two  days.”

The first semi-final on Saturday will see Kwekwe United  take on Triangle at mid-day while Scottland  will lock horns with ZPC Hwange  at 3pm.
