KWEKWE CITY-Ardent football lover Prophet Walter Magaya’s ambitious plan to build 10 stadiums across the country by 2032 is gaining momentum, with the 12,500-seater state of the art Chahwanda stadium in Kwekwe currently at 30% complete taking shape.

Magaya promised to complete Chahwanda Stadium Heart Group on March 30 this year as the two construction companies on site are working round the clock.

The towering self styled prophet invited journalists, city fathers and heads of departments from Kadoma and the ancient city on a tour of the soon to be completed world class Chahwanda Stadium in the city of gold last Wednesday.

“I am excited about the progress we have made so far, We are working tirelessly to ensure that the stadium is completed on schedule and meets international standards,” said a confident Magaya.

The construction of Chahwanda stadium commenced in December 2024 and has already seen 400 people, including women being employed at the giant project which is set to transform the city of gold.

Magaya emphasized the importance of having a proper stadium, stating that at least six hectares of land is required to accommodate the necessary facilities.

In addition to the Chahwanda stadium, Magaya has also set his sights on building a new stadium in Masvingo. During a recent meeting with city fathers, Magaya declared that Masvingo does not have a stadium, but rather a ground that requires renovation.

He urged the city fathers to create a committee to oversee the project, challenging them to set deadlines and include business personnel from Masvingo who will have naming rights of bays or bucket seats inscribed on them.

“We need to work together to make this project a success, I am confident that with the support of the city fathers and the community, we can build a world-class stadium that will benefit the people of Masvingo for generations to come,” he added.

Masvingo City Deputy Mayor, Cllr Daniel Mberikunashe, expressed his enthusiasm for the project.

“After seeing the Chahwanda stadium, we know that we can do even better in Masvingo, We are committed to working with Prophet Magaya to make this project a reality,” said Mberikunashe.

With the Chahwanda stadium nearing completion, Magaya said he is poised to make a significant impact on the sports landscape in Zimbabwe. His vision for the stadiums is not only to host national team matches but also to create hubs for sports development and community engagement as well business opportunities for small to medium sectors as there will be tuckshops, spas, sports clubs at the arenas.
