MASVINGO-Police have confirmed the death of Componi Simon (70) after a post-mortem concluded that he succumbed to excessive cold in Gutu District.

Masvingo Provincial Police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident and urged members of the public to take extra precautions during the cold season, particularly when travelling or spending extended periods outdoors.

The circumstances are that Simon left Chief Makore’s area on June 18 at around 4pm to attend his uncle’s funeral in Muchemwa Village under Chief Gutu. When he failed to return home, relatives searched for him without success.

A missing person report was filed at Gutu Police Station on June 23.

On July 1 at around 7am, Munangarwa Musi (29) of Taigara Farm, Mushaviri, was looking for grass when she discovered Simon’s lifeless body lying on the ground.

Police attended the scene and conveyed the body to Gutu Mission Hospital. No visible injuries were observed on the body.
