MASVINGO-Controversial and outspoken politician, Dzikamai Mavhaire who was recently welcomed back to Zanu PF is set to attend the conference in Bulawayo which began on Tuesday.
The development was confirmed by Masvingo Zanu PF provincial chairman, Rabson Mavhenyengwa in a telephone interview with The Midweek Watch.
“Yes he was invited since a party member and any party member can attend the people’s conference if they have been cleared by the party,” said Mavhenyengwa.
When contacted for his comment, Mavhaire was very rude and said he will never speak to the media anymore.
“Hey, I don’t talk to the press any more, I don’t want to talk to the press,” thundered Mavhaire before cutting off.
On being asked to confirm that Mavhaire will be inducted into the Council of Elders and get a new off road vehicle, Mavhenyngwa said this was a mere conference and not elective.
“This is not an elective meeting, but the prerogative to appoint anyone to any position is with President Mnangagwa,” added Mavhenyengwa.
Mavhaire was recently welcomed back to the ruling party after having been with the opposition when he joined former Vice President Joice Mujuru’s Patriotic Front and later on Nelson Chamisa’s CCC.
President Managagwa personally welcomed him back at State House and some party members were miffed by the gesture as they felt he was getting preferential treatment ahead of others.
1n 1998 Mavhaire was fired by late dictator Robert Mugabe after saying ‘The President must go’ and again in 2014 together with hordes of ministers including former VP Mujuru.
