Kwekwe-Gweru accidents: one killed

KWEKWEPolice in the Midlands province have confirmed two road traffic accidents which claimed one life while the other person was left battling for his life from injuries.

The accidents occurred between 11 and 12 October 2023.

The first incident occurred in Kwekwe along Railway Avenue in Mbizo 8, where Herbet Mangani (26) was driving a Nissan Caravan towards Mbizo with eight passengers on board. Upon approaching 1st Avenue, in Mbizo, Mangani indicated to turn right and as he was in the process of turning, he was hit from behind by a Nissan Hardbody which was being driven by Mbano Frank (42).

As a result of the impact, Mangani’s vehicle landed on its side, killing one person on the spot.

In a separate incident which occurred in Senga, Gweru, one person was admitted to hospital in a serious condition after he was hit by a motor vehicle while crossing the road.

The incident happened on 11 October 2023 and at about 9am, near Senga Old People’s Home.

 The injured pedestrian was identified as Phillip Moyo. The motor vehicle involved is a Toyota make which was being driven by Munyavhi Tapera (31) of Senga.

As a result of the impact, Moyo sustained severe head injuries and was admitted to Gweru Provincial Hospital.

Midlands Provincial Police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko urged motorists to observe traffic regulations.

“We urge motorists and the motoring public to obey the rules of the road every time to avoid traffic accidents,” he added.
