Kwekwe fugitive nabbed in Zhombe

Date:

MARTIN MAWAYA

A 39-year-old Kwekwe man who had been on the police wanted list for six years has been arrested in Zhombe, bringing to an end his long run from justice.

The Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko yesterday confirmed the arrest of Goodhope Mahachi of Mbizo, Kwekwe, saying he was picked up at Zhombe East Business Centre on September 6 during a police patrol.

Mahachi allegedly tried to resist arrest, but four officers on stop-and-search duty managed to subdue him.

“He had been on the run for years, but his luck ran out. This is a significant arrest and we commend the officers for their commitment,” Mahoko said.

Mahachi is reportedly linked to several cases including murder, attempted murder, assault and malicious damage to property committed between 2018 and 2024 in Kwekwe District.

Police have since appealed to members of the public to remain alert and report fugitives who may be hiding within communities.
