Kwekwe councillors fume as only 30 metres road rehabilitated

KWEKWE- Kwekwe Municipality councillors are boiling over what they called negligence and derelict duty as only 30 metres of the mining city’s roads have been attended to.
The city’s road network, mainly in the high density areas is now impassable due to pot holes and some of them need to be completely scrapped of the tar.
The matter came out during the full council meeting held at the Civic Centre boardroom which was also attended by management.
“Roads are of paramount importance as they are the economic arteries of the city, the rehabilitation of residential roads is expected to lay a strong foundation for community development through the smooth flow of both domestic and community trade.
“We expect council to prioritise the rehabilitation of the roads and take the matter very seriously and urgently,” said one irate councillor whom The Midweek Watch could not get his name.
“Residents are complaining about the way council is conducting the road rehabilitation project because the council is grading about 30 metres then dump the site, so it now appears as if we are telling people lies about the development. Let’s do our work fairly ward by ward not to skip other wards,” said Councillor Joshua Tinago.
Acting town clerk John Mhike said that, those areas that have been abandoned will be attended to as they are on the schedule and their intention is to develop all the areas like Mbizo 21 which has state of the art infrastructure.
“Our teams went to Mbizo 21 to grade the road temporarily to allow the transportation of materials, we are going back to every road in order to complete the work,” said Mhike.
Mhike added that they do not have enough equipment and they are going to hire from private players to speed up the rehabilitation of the roads which is a priority area.
