GUTU-Veteran politician, Christopher Chibhamu who participated in the liberation struggle by providing logistical support to the freedom fighters has expressed his desire to challenge incumbent Gutu East legislator, Berta Chikwama.

Chibhamu who is no stranger to Gutu East Constituency as he was born and bred in the area has promised to dislodge long serving Chikwama in the forthcoming Zanu PF primary elections to be held on a date to be advised.

“As soon as our Zanu PF party first secretary and President Cde E. D. Mnangagwa opens the ground for campaigning I will hit the ground running henceforth and I can assure you that the seat is mine and I will take Gutu East to the promised land.

“The last time I could not contest due to some technicalities, but this time around its a done deal. Gutu East will never be the same again,” said a confident Chibhamu.

The veteran politician who is also a senior employee at one of the leading manufacturing companies in Masvingo has also set his sights on drilling boreholes at five business centres in the Constituency.

“As the son of the soil and one who is very clear on what the people in Gutu East yearn for, I will start by providing clean, safe and reliable water to the business centres since these places are where most people gather and meet.

“I will drill solar boreholes at Chidhoni in ward 15, Mushwayi in ward 36, Mbambo in ward 18, Bhasera in ward 39 and Mataruse inward 13 business centres.

“I also intend to construct Vamba Dam in ward 15 which will benefit over 500 people in wards 13; 15; 16; 36a; 36B and 39 with drinking water for domestic animals, irrigation, fishing and other household chores for the villagers,” said Chibhamu who has been a member of the ruling party since its formation in 1963.

Chibhamu said he will also go on to look for money to scoop sand from all the dams that have been affected by siltation in the Constituency and restore them to their former glory.

“I am going to embark on an ambitious program to train women in various money spinning projects in the area and they will be massive repainting of schools so that they become attractive learning centre for our children. Cleanliness is next to Godliness.

“I will not leave the youths behind as they will also be involved in various income generating activities to keep them away from drugs which are threatening the entire generation if we as elders do not intervene quickly.

“Those who feel they have good ideas to uplift the Constituency are also welcome to come forward so that we work together for the good of our area which is lagging behind due to poor leadership at political level, Cde President E.D Mnangagwa said nyika inovakwa neven vayo and that is precisely what I will do,” he added.
