…speaks on Chambuta, Kudzanayi Bus Rank project
EDWIN MOYO
Gweru- Former Gweru Mayor and Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) candidate for Gweru Urban, Josiah Makombe has said development remains a priority in his agenda if he is elected MP on August 23.
Makombe said during his tenure at council he managed to oversee the renovation of Kudzanai Bus Terminus to a state of art point market which now accommodates more people in a cleaner environment for business.
“I have enough experience at local policy level and will not face challenges at national level due to the vast experience gained over the years,” said Makombe.
Chambuta
Mkombe highlighted that the Chambuta Ophanage initiatives which raised a lot of noise was a government initiative which saw all local authority under Urban Council Association of Zimbabwe contributing towards the welfare of the vulnerable children.
He added that those who think Chambuta which now house 200 children was his project were being economic with the truth and accusing of misusing council funds on it was misplaced anger by some politicians.
Kudzanayi Bus Terminus
“A word doing rounds that I sold the rank, why should I make people suffer, especial those who voted me into office. Kudzanai Bus Terminus was developed under a resolution which was made by council to partner a developer so that we improve that work place.
“Where on earth would I get power to sell Kudzanai Rank yet I was just a ceremonial mayor. The rank was leased for 20 years as is the agreement which was made in the Public Private Partnership ( PPP)with Bentach Resources.
“A lot was happening in the rank, people were busy subletting while council was getting nothing. The rank is Gweru council property and council is getting something as we speak right now, a lot was done to improve it.
“The good thing about Kudzanai Bus Terminus is that it has become a model which other local authorities are now copying,” said Makombe.
Makombe also urged the electorate to put development first by voting for Citizen Coalition Change Presidential candidate, Nelson Chamisa.
