CHIREDZI- Haruperi Liza Mesa (81) affectionately known as Gogo Musana described as a true patriot who dedicated her life to serving her country and community was laid to rest yesterday at Chiredzi District heroes acre.

Gogo Musana’s journey into politics began at the tender age of 16 when she joined the Zanu PF party. Her passion and commitment to the party’s ideals led her to rise through the ranks from a card-carrying member, cell chairperson, and eventually a National Consultative Assembly member from 2017 until the time of her death.
Throughout her illustrious career, Gogo Musana held various positions including DCC Secretary for Gender, DCC Secretary for Indigenisation, and Party District Women’s League political commissar.

Chiredzi Town Council vice Chairperson Liberty Macharaga said that Gogo Musana’s impact extended far beyond the realm of politics.
“She was a devoted community leader who took care of more than 2 000 orphans from 1998 ensuring they received education through the BEAM program. She also helped disadvantaged children obtain birth certificates and other essential documents” said Macharaga.
She passed away on Tuesday at Chiredzi General Hospital after being admitted for a few hours after complaining of severe stomach ache.
Zanu-PF Women’s league provincial Chairperson Alginia Mhlanga credited Gogo Musana for molding her into the person she is today, her dedication and hard work earned her a reputation as a true leader and champion of women’s rights.

“Gogo Musana was the one who guided and instilled in me the confidence to venture successfully into politics, she was a tough woman, not afraid to stand her ground, a wise and compassionate leader always willing to lend a listening ear and offer sage advice. Mbuya Musana was a good political adviser since she could navigate the complex web of alliances and rivalries with ease and her counsel was sought by many,” said Mlanga.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, courage and resilience, as well as 3 children and 5 grandchildren.
The burial proceedings, led by the Salvation Army Church and other denominations, were a fitting tribute to Gogo Musana’s life and legacy.
