“The police urges the public to find peaceful methods of resolving disputes or differences at family and society level. The church, traditional leaders and general community is implored to come on board to ensure the public respect the sanctity of human life.

“The police will continue to engage communities in order to promote the culture of law abiding citizens in all facets of life,” said national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi.

Comm Nyathi issued the statement that murder cases during this year’s festive season have hit a shocking 49 from December 20 to 26.

Timothy Simango told the police that on 24December 2024 at around 2pm Ndlovu arrived at Muyambo’s homestead and reproached him on the series of stock theft that had occurred in the village.

Muyambo was infuriated by Ndlovu’s words and a disagreement escalated between the two.

Ndlovu then picked a log and struck the accused person once on the head anddropped the log and tried to flee from the scene but Muyambo, picked the same log and ran after him.

The accused caught up with him and struck him once on the head with the same log. Ndlovu staggered and fell on the ground facing downwards. Upon noticing that he had injured the now deceased, the accused attempted to render first aid to him by placing him on the recovery position but to no avail.

Simango went on to make a phone call to the Chisumbanje Police station who reacted quickly and arrested Muyambo at the scene. The police also recovered the weapon used in the commission of the crime. Body of the now deceased was inspected and a deformation with a laceration wound was observed on the head.

Ndlovu’s body was taken to St Peters’ Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem. The accused was escorted to ZRP Chisumbanje.
