GWERU-Police in Gweru have arrested Darlington Tshuma (29) on allegations of murder, while his accomplice Moses Moyo is still at large.
Midlands police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident that occurred on May 27 at around 7pm on the outskirts of Gweru City.
He said the now deceased, Fana Ntini (19), Emmanuel Phiri (33) and Jefta Mkhwananzi (22) were walking home from watching a football match at Matambo Business Centre off Matobo Road, when they met Tshuma and Moyo.
Insp Mahoko said Tshuma pulled out a knife and stabbed Mkhwananzi on the right thigh before pursuing Ntini and stabbed him once on the stomach.
“Police are investigating murder and attempted murder cases where a 19 year old man was stabbed to death by two assailants, while walking home from watching a football match.
“One of the men identified as Darlington Tshuma aged (29) suddenly pulled a knife from his waist and stabbed Jefta Mkhwananzi once on the right thigh over previous grudges.
“Sensing danger, Fana Ntini and Emmanuel Phiri ran in different directions. The two suspects chased Ntini, caught up with him and stabbed him once on the stomach with a knife and he fell down. The suspects went away from the scene,” said Inspector Mahoko.

He said the following day, on the 28th of May 2023, at around 8am, villagers searched around the bush and found Ntini body in the bush.
Insp Mahoko said a report was made at ZRP Gweru Rural that led to the arrest of Tshuma whilst searching for Moyo is in full swing.
“A blood stained Colombia knife, two home made knives and a catapult used to commit the crime were recovered,” Insp Mahoko said.
He said Ntini’s body is held at Gweru Provincial Hospital mortuary, while Mkhwananzi is admitted at the same hospital receiving treatment for the injuries sustained.
Inspector Mahoko appealed to members of the public with information on the whereabouts of Moyo to contact any nearest police station.
