Gweru man murdered in beer brawl

GWERU- A beer drinking session in Lower Gweru turned bloody when two brothers together with their friend allegedly assaulted a man to death, accusing him of trying to steal from a tuckshop.

Midlands Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident identifying the victim as Naison Ntini (34).

He said one of the suspects has been arrested while two other accomplices are on police radar.

“Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirms to have arrested a 38-year old man on allegations of murder whilst his two other accomplices are on the run. The three took turns to beat up a 34 year old man, who was found dead on an open space the following day near Ngxongxo Tuckshops under  Chief Bunina in Lower Gweru.

“The now deceased was identified as Naison Ntini of Village Mugwagwa under Chief Sogwala in Lower Gweru,” he said.

According to police records,  on the fateful day, the three suspects, Alfred Mutombeni (30) ,his brother Isheunesu Mutombeni both of Matambo Village under Chief Bunina in Lower Gweru and Mduduzi Dzikamai were drinking beer at Ngxongxo Tuckshops together with the now deceased.

It is alleged that Ntini entered behind the counter and the three accused him of intending to steal. They took turns to assault him with open hands and switches.  Ntini escaped and fled the scene, only to be found dead the following morning.

Inspector Mahoko said only Alfred Mutombeni has been arrested.  He appealed to members of the public to assist with information on the whereabouts of Isheunesu Mutombeni and Mduduzi Dzikamai.

“Investigations are underway and police has since arrested Alfred Mtombeni, who is now in custody as investigations progress.

“We are also keen to interview Isheunesu Mutombeni and Mduduzi Dzikamai who are currently at large. We call upon members of the public with information pertaining to their whereabouts to contact the police,” he said.
