Gweru head-on collision leaves 2 nursing Injuries

GWERU- Police have confirmed a serious road accident which occurred in Gweru where two speeding vehicles collided, injuring two drivers.

The mishap happened on 22 November 2023 at around 0052 hours.

Nyengera Mutero (45) of Ruby area in Gweru, was driving a Toyota Sienta motor vehicle along Harare-Bulawayo Road towards Bulawayo.

 Upon reaching the 284km peg, Kunaka Tafirenyika, (39) of Redcliff in Kwekwe who was driving a Silver Toyota Corolla from the opposite direction overtook another vehicle. In the process, his vehicle encroached into Tafirenyika’s lane.

In an attempt to avoid an imminent accident, both vehicles swerved in the same direction, resulting in a head-on collision.

Midlands Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko called for caution on roads.

“Drives are reminded that speed thrills but impaires their ability to control their vehicles in times of emergencies. Drivers, as such should always use reasonable and low speeds,” he added.

Of late the country has been recording an increase in the number of accidents due to negligence, speeding, drinking and failure to observe road regulations among other things.
