Gwanda Mayor launches Xmas cheer fund

Gwanda Mayor Alderman Thulani Moyo has launched the 2024 Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund, aiming to raise US$20,000 to support over 250 vulnerable community members during the festive season.
The fundraising initiative, launched at Mount Cazalet Lodge in Gwanda, brought together the business community, residents, and stakeholders. This year’s target surpasses last year’s goal, which benefited 200 families, exceeding the initial target of 150.
“The festive season is upon us, and it is time to launch the Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund, We have families in our community who will not be able to enjoy the spirit of Christmas due to financial hardships. The fund aims to support those most in need, The Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund prioritizes orphans, widows, the elderly, and individuals living with disabilities,” said Moyo.
“Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference, residents are encouraged to contribute, ensuring the success of this year’s Christmas Cheer Fund,” Mayor added.
Methuseli Moyo, chairperson of the Gwanda Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund committee, emphasized that donation containers will be placed in shops and offices across the mining town to encourage public contributions, engaging stakeholders and partnering with the department of social welfare, local councillors, churches, and community members to ensure transparent beneficiary selection.
The fund seeks to provide tangible support to vulnerable families, spreading joy and warmth during the Christmas season.
