The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has announced a temporary suspension of bus timetables with immediate effect until May 18, to ease transportation challenges during the peak travel season.

This period includes the end of the first school term, Independence Day celebrations, Easter holidays, and the start of the second school term, which are expected to see a significant surge in intercity travel, The Midweek Watch has learnt.
According to the Ministry’s letter to transport operators, “The suspension of timetables is aimed at easing transportation challenges during this peak period.”
The Ministry has emphasized that passenger safety and security remain a top priority, and authorities are on high alert to monitor compliance and minimize accidents during this busy period.
“We much appreciate the Ministry for putting the lives of the people first, buses tend to focus on timetables than the passengers,” said Ranganai Runesu a Rujeko resident.
The operators welcomed the decision, citing that fixed timetables often become impractical during holiday seasons when passenger volumes surge dramatically.
While bus timetables are suspended, transport operators must continue to comply with all safety regulations, which will be strictly enforced by traffic safety authorities.
Normal bus timetable operations are set to resume on May 19, 2025, when the second school term begins, in the meantime, commuters are advised to plan their journeys in advance and report any transport irregularities to the relevant authorities.
