MUTARE-Early pace-setters in the Pacific Storm Eastern Region Soccer League, GreenFuel FC, were held to a goalless draw by Mutare City Rovers FC in a tightly contested matchday four encounter played at Chisamba Ground this afternoon (Saturday).

Coming into the fixture as one of the league’s in-form sides, Greenfuel were expected to continue their strong run. However, they were frustrated by a disciplined and resilient Mutare City Rovers outfit that proved difficult to break down in front of their home supporters.

Nicknamed Gusha Bhora, the hosts produced a spirited defensive display, denying the visitors clear-cut chances and standing firm under sustained pressure for large parts of the match. Despite Greenfuel enjoying the lion’s share of possession, their inability to convert opportunities ultimately cost them maximum points.

Greenfuel head coach Arnold Dunga Jani remained positive after the match, praising his players’ overall performance while acknowledging the need for improvement in front of goal.

“We played very well against Mutare City Rovers, and I’m proud of the effort the boys put in,” said Jani.

“Unfortunately, we did not capitalise on the chances we created. That is an area we need to work on going forward. We will focus on improving our execution in the final third and reinforcing our strike force ahead of the next assignment.”

Jani also emphasized that the result, while disappointing, offers valuable lessons as the season progresses.

“It’s still early in the season, and these are the kind of matches that help shape the team. We take the positives, correct our mistakes, and come back stronger.”

The match lived up to its billing as one of the standout fixtures of the round, with both sides displaying moments of quality football. Mutare City Rovers, buoyed by home support, showed determination and tactical discipline, particularly in defence, where they managed to contain Greenfuel’s attacking threats.

Mutare City Rovers head coach Brian Mukundu hailed his team’s fighting spirit, especially against a strong and well-organized opponent.

“I’m very proud of the boys. We knew we were coming up against a tough side, but the players showed great character and discipline,” said Mukundu.

“Defensively, we were solid, and the commitment from every player was excellent. A point against a team like Greenfuel is a positive result for us.”

Mukundu also highlighted the importance of building on such performances as the campaign continues.

“This result gives us confidence. If we maintain this level of performance and improve in certain areas, especially going forward, we can achieve good results in the coming matches.”

While neither side managed to find the back of the net, the encounter was far from dull, with end-to-end action and tactical battles across the pitch keeping spectators engaged throughout.

The result sees Greenfuel dropping valuable points in the early race for top honours, while Mutare City Rovers will take encouragement from a hard-earned draw against one of the league’s strongest teams.
