GWERU—The 2026 Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke will this week take a new dimension with the launch of a book exploring the geological, historical, economic, environmental and tourism significance of Zimbabwe’s 550km mineral belt.
Written by Minex chairperson Munyaradzi Hwengwere, The Great Dyke Book: Beyond the Rock will be launched on Thursday evening at King Solomon Hotel during the three-day cycling event, which starts at Zimplats’ Selous Metallurgical Complex and ends on November 7.
Deputy Minister of Mines and Mining Development Dr Caleb Makwiranzou will be the guest of honour at the official opening.
Tour director Nobuhle Mahlahla said the publication would broaden understanding of the Great Dyke beyond its mineral wealth by documenting its history, geology and wider economic opportunities.
“The launch of The Great Dyke Book: Beyond the Rock is one of the major highlights of this year’s tour. It complements the cycling experience by documenting the history, geology, economic significance and wider opportunities of the Great Dyke,” she said.
The launch is expected to bring together Government representatives, mining executives, investors, academics and other stakeholders to examine the mineral belt’s contribution to Zimbabwe’s development and its future potential.
The Great Dyke stretches approximately 550km across Zimbabwe and holds significant deposits of platinum group metals, chrome, nickel and gold, making it a major pillar of the country’s mining sector.
Mahlahla said proceeds from the tour and book sales would support the Gifted Children Foundation, which has assisted 157 talented but underprivileged children.
The annual cycling event also promotes wellness, tourism and community development through partnerships between the mining industry and surrounding communities.
