ZVISHAVANE- Mining companies along the Great Dyke Geological Complex have been urged to take up wellness activities seriously so that they remain physically fit.

Speaking during the just-ended Palawani Wellness Challenge, Cell Insurance Group Chief Executive Officer Dr Isheunesu Makuzwa expressed his appreciation for the significant contributions of regional mining companies, acknowledging their efforts in leveraging mineral resources for community betterment.
“We encourage miners to take part in wellness activities in their daily lives. Wellness is not all about speed or stamina. Sometimes, it is about having access to care, finding the courage to take the first step or simply getting through the day.
“As miners, you should always practice so that you remain physically active and productive. As Cell Insurance, we value your health and we see every day reality behind wellness,” he said.
Speaking at the event, owner of Palawani Lake World Resort, director of Yah FM and Buy Zimbabwe Chief Executive Officer Munyaradzi Hwengwere expressed his appreciation for the significant contributions of regional mining companies within the Great Dyke Geological Complex, acknowledging their efforts in leveraging mineral resources for community betterment.
He highlighted the positive impacts of companies such as Mimosa, Unki, Sabi and Murowa for their exceptional performance in the mining industry.
Despite wintery conditions, the Palawani Wellness Challenge took place on Saturday at the Palawani Lake World Resort near Zvishavane Town, showcasing remarkable endurance and competitive spirit among local athletes.
The event drew a determined crowd, with participants braving the cold weather conditions to compete in the 21km ,10 km and 5 km races.
In the men’s 21 km race, Earnest Siziba from Zvishavane cruised to victory, taking home the top prize of US$100. Closely behind was Michael Mlalazi from Palawani Secondary School in second place, earning himself US$75 cash prize.
On the women’s side Patience Dhikinya from Sabi Gold Mine dominated, claiming the first place and US$100 while Nicla Gonah again from the same stable came second.
In the men’s 10 km race, Ick Moses scooped the first prize pocketing US$75 while Brian Machova emerged as second getting away with US$50.
On the women’s side, Moreblessing Chituva striked the first position while Tendai Ncube earned the second position.
