CHIKOMBA—Good Hope Junior School Taekwondo Club dominated the Cadet Taekwondo Tournament held at Hopefey Hotel and Conference Centre in Marondera last weekend.
The elite school had five students who all had some finest moves in the sport to secure medals. Constance Nhliziyo had a gold medal and a Best Female Player Trophy in the under 32 kg female category. Jamaal Tigere and Tinotenda Tsoka also scooped gold medals in under 32kg and 24kg categories respectively.
Other students who represented the club are Esther Magava who scooped a silver in the under 44kg category and Thabani Dzvairo who won a bronze medal in the under 49kg category.
Another club from the transit town MuvSports Taekwondo Club which fielded three players at the tournament also scooped medals through Tarirai Masunganye who won a gold medal in the over 55kg category, Ekranchimiyo Muvhuti and Tapiwa Nobert Marimo who both had silver medals in under 32kg and under 22 kg categories respectively. Ellias Neshiri also scooped a bronze medal in the under 32 kg category.
Both clubs are trained by Givemore Muvuti who is the founder of MuvSports Taekwondo Club. In an interview with The Midweek Watch, Muvuti said he was excited by the way his students were developing. He also said lack of sponsorship and space for training hinder the young talents from fully exploding.
“I am happy with how the youngsters are developing and their performance was incredible. Lack of sponsors and lack of space for training continues to hinder our talent development,” said Muvhuti.
Good Hope Junior School head, Kudakwashe Nyani congratulated all students who participated in the tournament and hailed their spirit to do better and better.
“I am happy for our students who participated at the tournament because they all won medals. We introduced the sport at the school last year in May and learners are showing great interest in it.
“Both learners and parents are showing keen interest and the zeal to conquer the world in whatever tournaments, the sky is the limit,” said Nyani.
