MARTIN MAWAYA
A-34-year old Gokwe man was tragically assaulted to death while attempting to intervene in a scuffle between two rivals fighting over a girlfriend.
The deceased, Douglas Dube, was struck with a knobkerrie on the head, arm, and leg, causing him to fall to the ground before the attacker fled the scene.
The incident occurred on December 27, 2024, around 12:30 AM in Lubhadha Village under Chief Mkoka in Gokwe.
The Midlands Province police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko told The Midweek Watch that authorities are currently searching for Descent Gumbi in connection with the murder case.
On that fateful day, Dube was walking home from Makwakwa Business Centre when he witnessed Gumbi assaulting one Trust Manyemwe, whom Gumbi accused of having an affair with his girlfriend.
When Dube tried to restrain the two from fighting, Gumbi struck him until he fell to the ground before fleeing the scene.
A report was made to the police, who attended the scene.
Dube and Manyemwe were taken to Gokwe South District Hospital, where Manyemwe was treated and discharged.
However, Dube was later referred to Gweru, where he tragically died on his way to the Provincial Hospital.
The police are appealing for any information that could assist in the arrest of the suspect, urging members of the public with information to report to the nearest police station.
