MASVINGO – A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the Harare-Masvingo Highway on Saturday evening.
Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the fatal accident and urged motorists to exercise caution and remain attentive while driving.
“Motorists should avoid speeding and remain alert at all times to prevent unnecessary loss of life on our roads,” said Inspector Dhewa.
The accident occurred on July 25 at around 5:30pm at the 276-kilometre peg along the Harare-Masvingo Road.
The circumstances are that Stanford Zvirikure of Kuwadzana, Harare, was driving a silver Toyota Corolla Axio towards Masvingo with one passenger on board when he struck Biggy Chandinginda (pictured) of Gokomere Village under Chief Zimuto, who was crossing the road.
Chandinginda sustained multiple fractures and died on the spot.
His body was taken to Masvingo Provincial Hospital for a post-mortem.
Police said Zvirikure has been charged with culpable homicide.
