KWEKWE- The reconstruction of Globe and Phoenix Primary School which was shut down after illegal mining operations caused structural collapse is now 78 percent complete.

The new site in Kwekwe is expected to be finished by September this year with a capacity to house 785 leaners.
On Tuesday, Midlands Minister of State and Devolution Owen Ncube, Latter Day Saints Church, Seventh Day Adventist Church, and Kwekwe City Council toured the school as part of mobilising resources towards the reconstruction of the crucial learning institution.
Ncube said the decommissioning of the old school disrupted the learning environment resulting to the relocation of leaners to temporary structures at Russel Primary school.

“As you may all be aware, the decommissioning of the old school negatively impacted the leaners as they subsequently relocated to temporary structures at Russel Primary.

“I want to pay tribute to Latter Day Saints Church, Kwekwe City Council, SDA Church, Cde Dala Ncube, Cde Kaji, Cde Magodora, Vendors4ED, Globe and Phoenix High and Russel Primary and other stakeholders for tye unity of purpose towards timeous mobilisation of financial and material resources towards construction of Globe and Phoenix Primary School which underscores the Second Republic’s development mantra,” he said.
The new project currently has an administration, ablution, and 7 by 2 classroom blocks trusses installed, and 5 by 2 classroom blocks at roofing level.
The Globe and Phoenix Primary School has been closed following a devastating collapse of classroom blocks caused by illegal gold mining activities beneath the school premises.
The decision to close the school was made after a thorough assessment revealed significant structural damage, rendering the buildings unsafe for students and staff.
