RUSAPE-Tadiwa Nyakuromba (9) of Crofton B Farm in Rusape drowned in a family well as she was fetching water with a bucket in the company of her five year old sister.
The sad incident happened on February 11 at around 11am when Tadiwa who was sent by her grandmother, Mavis Mwanetsa (45) to fetch water lost balance and slipped into the 2metre deep family well.
The five year old sister alerted their grandmother who retrieved Tadiwa’s body and reported the matter to Rusape police who attended the scene.
Tadiwa’s body was taken to Rusape Hospital mortuary for a postmortem.
Manicaland province acting police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka advised parents and guardians not to send children on errands involving water bodies on their own as this oftentimes result in loss of innocent lives by drowning.
