Prominent banker and businessman, Gift Gonese, has said he will wrestle the Gutu East Parliamentary seat from Zanu PF at the forthcoming by elections slated for June 14.

Gonese is entering the race as an Independent candidate.
The by elections follows the expulsion of former area legislator, Benjamin Ganyiwa from Zanu PF and the President went to declare the date of the elections and the nomination court is going to seat on Thursday at Masvingo Magistrates Court from 8am to 5pm.
Having contested the 2023 harmonized elections, which were widely criticized by the international community, Gonese is no stranger to the electoral process.
The by-election was necessitated by the expulsion of former ZANU PF legislator, Benjamin Ganyiwa, who was ousted from the party for alleged disloyalty.
Gonese said citizens of Gutu East had called on him to contest, citing widespread discontent with ZANU PF’s leadership.
“We are fully aware of the uneven playing field, but the people have spoken, and we cannot turn a deaf ear to their pleas,” Gonese said.
With his wealth of experience in finance and business, Gonese is confident in his ability to serve the people of Gutu East.
The citizens’ cry for change has resonated with Gonese, who believes that his unique blend of business acumen, academic rigour, and financial expertise can bring a fresh perspective to the constituency.
