MWENEZI- Masvingo police have warned villagers who reside near crocodile infested water bodies to desist from conducting fishing activities near them as they risk being attacked by the giant reptiles.
The police calls come after the death of Museiwa Gezani(54) on the 30th of March at Mwenezi River as he was mauled by a crocodile during his fishing escapades.
Zimbabwe Republic police Masvingo provincial spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident
He said Gezani did not return home on the fateful day after he had left home for fishing, this led to other villagers and family members to conduct a search for two days but failed to locate him.
Inspector Dhewa added that the late Gezani’s lifeless body was later found floating in the river, his stomach and knees were ripped with crocodile teeth marks.
“A postmortem was waved since there was no foul play suspected by Mwenezi Resident Magistrate Concept Ngwerume.
“We urge the public not to fish or play in crocodile infested rivers or dams as they risk losing their life or getting injured when attacked by the crocodiles,” he said.
