MASVINGO – The arts and crafts community in Masvingo has received a significant boost as they collaborate with a renowned German artist to elevate product quality and marketing.

Dr. Paul Hirsch, an expert from SES (Senior Experts Service), is partnering with local organizations Vagutu Crafts and Mashava Arts to tap into the expertise of retired professional artists to assist the sector.
The program is being spearheaded by ZimTrade, marking the first time the arts and crafts industry being selected for such support.
Dr. Paul, who has decades of experience in the arts and crafts industry, brings a wealth of knowledge to local artists.
He emphasized the importance of “efficient marketing strategies,” covering topics such as online presence, branding, networking, and customer engagement.
The collaboration aims to improve the quality of artifacts and help the artists develop a global presence.
“We are very grateful for this opportunity to have an expert in the industry address our group on various market issues and strategies for marketing our products,” said Michelle Makoni, director of Mashava Arts and Crafts, who has been exporting stone sculptures to Japan.
The artists from Vagutu Crafts and Mashava Arts were guided through various techniques and materials, enabling them to create more refined and visually appealing pieces.
This collaboration lays a strong foundation for building upon as they strive to increase their global reach, with more than 14 workshops expected across Zimbabwe, including Harare, Masvingo, and Mutare.
