GCC partners Sheasham as Chipembere Queens rebrand

Gweru City Council who own Chipembere Queens FC has joined hands with Sheasham and the team has been rebranded to Sheasham Gweru Queens FC, to bolster the fortunes of the local women’s football team.
Sheasham Gweru Queens FC, was officially launched at a colorful event held at Sunset Resort last Friday.
The ceremony was attended by city council officials, Sheasham FC representatives, the local business community, and the newly rebranded women’s team.
Gweru Mayor, Cllr Martin Chivhoko expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting that the partnership will foster the development of the girl child in sports.
“Joining forces with Sheasham FC, demonstrates councils’ commitment to empowering talented female soccer players and raising the profile of women’s sports in the community,” he said.
Under the terms of the agreement, Sheasham FC will provide technical support, coaching expertise, and access to their training facilities to help develop the skills and professionalism of the Sheasham Gweru Queens squad.
In turn, the city council will support the team with medical facilities, fundraising, and second two officials to sit on the club’s board.
Sheasham FC’s president, Clever Mandaza, highlighted the mutual benefits of the partnership.
“Sheasham FC has a rich history of nurturing football talent, and we are proud to extend our expertise to support the Sheasham Gweru Queens.
“This collaboration will not only elevate the team’s performance but also inspire young girls in Gweru to pursue their passion of sport,” he said.
The rebranded Sheasham Gweru Queens team is currently in the Zimbabwe Women’s Super League.
In addition, the players expressed their excitement about the partnership and the opportunities it presents for the team’s future.
“This is a game-changing moment for us,” said team captain Rutendo Rubaya.
“With the backing of Sheasham FC and the Gweru City Council, we are confident that we can reach new heights and inspire the next generation of female footballers in our city.”
The partnership between Gweru City Council and Sheasham FC is a positive step forward in the development of women’s football in Zimbabwe, and a model for other local authorities to emulate in supporting their local teams, said Henry Machingura, one of the Gweru business mogul who was the guest of owner at the launch.
