Gweru City Council has taken delivery of new fleet of vehicles to enhance service delivery, including a commuter omnibus and three single cabs, valued at US$165,000.

The acquisition was made using the council’s internal resources.
The commuter omnibus, valued at $79,950, will improve transportation services and enhance accessibility for the city’s residents.
While the three single cabs, valued at $85,500, will support the council’s teams in responding promptly and effectively to residents’ needs.
Speaking during the commissioning of the vehicles by the Midlands Provincial Affairs Minister Owen Ncube and Gweru Mayor Martin Chivhoko highlighted the strategic importance of the investments.

“These strategic investments demonstrate our commitment to efficiency, productivity, and meeting the evolving needs of our residents,” Chivhoko said.
“The commuter omnibus will improve transportation services, enhancing accessibility and convenience for our citizens. Meanwhile, the single cabs will support our teams in delivering exceptional results, enabling them to respond promptly and effectively to residents’ needs.”
The mayor emphasized that the council’s internal funding model has enabled these investments, showcasing the local authority’s financial prudence and sustainability.
He commended the dedication and hard work of the council’s leadership, staff, and partners, stating that their collective commitment to excellence has made this milestone possible.
“As we continue to grow and innovate, I look forward to witnessing the positive impact of these assets on our operations and the community we serve,” Chivhoko said.
“These investments represent a significant step forward in our journey towards delivering exceptional services and putting the needs of our residents first.”
The new fleet of vehicles is expected to enhance the Gweru City Council’s ability to provide efficient and responsive services to the residents, contributing to the overall development and well-being of the city.
Minister Ncube said the procurement of vehicles “illustrates Council’s commitment to adhere to provisions of the Second Republic’s devolution and decentralization agenda and corporate governance frameworks that empower communities, promote local decision-making, transparency and accountability.”
He added that the vehicle purchases underscores the importance and benefits of sound budget performance underpinned by statutory obligations and mandates bestowed on local authorities.
