Dancehall superstar Emegy Slyvester Chizanga aka Freeman HKD Boss is set to shake the local music scene once again with the release of his 15th studio album, ‘The Notebook’.

Freeman.

Freeman HKD Boss, is a Zimdancehall artist who rose to prominence after release of Joina City single.

Known for his lyrical depth and consistent growth, the HKD Boss says this album is drawing inspiration from both love and life’s intricate journey.

“Mainly love and daily life issues inspired the album,” said Freeman in an interview with the press.

“I named it The Notebook because in a notebook or journal, you write everything you feel and exactly how you feel it. That’s where the inspiration came from.”

The new project marks a shift from his previous works, both sonically and thematically.

“The main difference between this album and my previous projects is the sound and the songwriting approach,” he explained. “I went all out. As we grow, time is moving, and sound is evolving so it’s best to move with the times.”

While fans are eager to know who features on the album, Freeman is keeping the collaborations under wraps. “You’ll see when the track list is released,” he teased. “I love surprises.”

What makes The Notebook stand out, Freeman says, is its versatility.

“There’s a bit of everything on there. When I make albums, I make sure there’s something for everyone.

“We live in a world where options are a fingertip away, so I want my fans to have as many options as they can get on my projects.”

Fans have played a vital role in shaping this milestone album.

“As we move across the country and beyond doing shows, there’s a lot that you learn from your fans, how they love your sound and how they picture you sonically,” he shared.

With a music career spanning over a decade, Freeman poured much of his life into his songs and public engagements.

“I feel like there’s not much to share about my journey because I’ve put it all out there, in my music and on my socials,” he shared.

Reminiscing about his first performance, Freeman recalls, “It was magical, I still remember the adrenaline, I was nervous and happy at the same time.”

Despite the challenges that come with life and career, Freeman remains grounded.

“I’ve been blessed to experience a minimum of challenges beyond my control. Of course, everyone is going through a lot in life, and I’m not excluded, but that’s life.”

When asked about his musical influences, Freeman credits both local and international legends.

“Vybz Kartel and a lot of Jamaican artists inspired me. Locally, Trinta and Decibel played a huge role.”

However, The Midweek Watch could not talk to Delroy Shewe, who collaborated with Freeman on a track called ‘Madhuve’ from his new album. They had shared a chorus of the song on TikTok.
