An accident occurred when a trailer unexpectedly disengaged while in motion around 1:30 PM along Plumtree Road on July 14 in Belmont, Bulawayo, claiming one life and leaving two others seriously injured.
The National Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident which involved a Mercedes Benz Sprinter towing a trailer, which detached while in motion.
The trailer veered off the road and struck three unsuspecting pedestrians who were walking along the roadside.
Eyewitnesses, described the moment as horrifying, with the trailer “flying off like a missile” before slamming into the victims.
All three pedestrians were quickly rushed to Mpilo Hospital for emergency treatment, sadly, one of them succumbed to his injuries.
The police urged drivers to double-check towing equipment and vehicle conditions before travel to avoid similar tragedies.
