Fireworks as Flamboyant Hotel s CBL pool finals

MASVINGO CITY-The iconic Flamboyant Hotel perched about a kilometre from the CBD along the Great Zimbabwe Monuments Road is set to host the 2023 finals of the Carling Black Label national pool championships.

The organisers of the championships have promised pool lovers fireworks and a lifetime experience during the weekend of July 8 as teams from across the country converge for the historic tournament.

“All pool lovers should come in their numbers to witness this historic event, even those who have not seen the game are also invited and they will not be disappointed,” said Zimbabwe Pool Association technical director, Wellington Dhewa Chikasha.

Dhewa also told The Midweek Watch that, “this year’s finals will see 128 participants (64 Men and 64 Women) who qualified from their 26 respective regions/centres taking part in the finals.

 “Qualifiers were held in 26 Centres countrywide. So far we 21 Centres finished their games and this weekend we are closing with the remaining 5 centres.

 “Our Centres were divided into two that is MAJOR (Harare, Chitungwiza and Bulawayo) and MINOR(Chegutu, Kadoma and Chinhoyi) where 5 men and 5 women qualified from MAJOR Centres then 2 men and 2 women from MINOR centres,”.

Regency Hotels general manager, Pios Tshuma the owners of Flamboyant Hotel said they are ready to host the championship finals which come to the ancient for the first time after a long time.

“It gives us pleasure as a province to host such a prestigious event for the first time after a long time. We are more than ready for our visitors and people should come out in their numbers, beverages and well-prepared food will be in abundance on the day.

“It is all systems go,” said Tshuma.

A total of 128 players, both women and men will battle it out for honours on the day.

Last year the winners were, Pearson Nyasha in the men’s category from Chitungwiza and Someya Mulauzi in the ladies’ category from Kwekwe.

There will be cash prizes, shields and trophies up for grabs on the day.

Local players who spoke to this publication expressed joy for being the host of the Carling Black Label pool championships for 2023 and promised not to disappoint.

“Its game on come July 8 next week, the trophy will remain in the ancient city, we are ready to rumble, the trophy is ours.

“We have been practising since the beginning of the year for this once in a lifetime chance to showcase our talents,” said Oscar Oskido Kashangura who plays for Landmark Bar team.

Seasoned pool player, Happy Gono from Masvingo said they have been yearning for this opportunity and they will show the world what they are capable of doing on the day.
