GWERU-Police are investigating the murder of a 37 year old man who died while in admission at Zvishavane District Hospital after he was beaten by his father for burning his firewood log.

The incident occurred at village Maribha Chief Mataruse, Mberengwa on 06 April 2024 at about 1200 hours, The Midweek Watch has learnt.

The now deceased was identified as Pardon Gumbo of Maribha Village under Chief Mataruse, Mberengwa whilst the suspect, Sherpard Nhamo (62) is the biological father of the deceased and they were staying together.

It is said the two were at their homestead in Village Maribha Chief Mataruse, Mberengwa when Gumbo took a wooden log intending to put it in the fire. The suspect, Nhamo told him that the log belonged to him and should not burn it.

Gumbo went on and put the log in the fire. This did not please his father Nhamo who grabbed him by the collar and head butted him and went on to use fists to assault him all over the body.

Trymore Gumbo intervened and stopped the scuffle. On 7 April 2024 Pardon left home for Zvishavane District Hospital to seek medical treatment where he was subsequently admitted. On 10 April 2024 his condition deteriorated and he died.

Midlands Provincial Police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the development and the arrest of the suspect.

“The suspect, Shepard Nhamo was arrested and is assisting the Police with investigations.

“We appeal to members of the public to seek better ways of solving disputes other than resorting to violence.” Mahoko said.
