A 30-year-old man from Makado, Chiredzi, met a gruesome end to his life on March 2 when he was attacked and killed by a group of five men from Farm 15 in Hippo Valley.
Masvingo province Police Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, said Rutendo Ncube and his friend had gone to a goat pen at around 5 am, where they slaughtered a goat. However, their actions were noticed by Rudo Makuyana (19) who alerted the group of five men.
The group, consisting of Wayne Makosi (27), Descent Munguni (26), Liverty Mushava (18), David Muwadzarira (24), and Panashe Simbi (19), chased after Rutendo and his friend. Rutendo fell down, allowing his friend to escape, but he was not so lucky. The mob attacked him, biting and kicking him until he lost consciousness.
Despite attempts to render first aid, Rutendo succumbed to his injuries. The matter was reported to the Hippo Valley Police, and his body was taken to Chiredzi General Hospital.
Inspector Dhewa urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, emphasizing the importance of allowing the police to handle such matters.
